Urbex photography is magical. You’ll discover a whole new world where light, contrast, framing and technique come together. Come to the unique Landschaftspark Duisburg and learn the basics of urbex photography from experienced urbex photographer Wim Robbertsen. Practical, hands-on and inspiring.
For who?
For anyone who wants to learn how to take urbex photographs in a small group, in both light and dark conditions. This workshop is suitable for all ages. The physical exertion required will be limited, although we will be climbing the blast furnace via steel staircases.
When?
The workshop will take place on Saturday 10 October 2026. The programme starts at 15:00 and ends at around 21:00. At around 17:30, there will be an opportunity to make use of the catering facilities on site.
What will the workshop be like?
After we meet at the park’s visitor centre, we’ll start with a brief introduction and a cup of coffee, tea or soft drink. We’ll briefly discuss the learning objectives and then head into the park. Urbex photographer Wim Robbertsen will guide everyone personally and help with questions about lighting settings, bracketing, how to frame your shots, the interplay of lines and other camera settings. As we’ll be in a small group, there’ll be plenty of freedom; you won’t be getting in each other’s way in front of the camera, and you’ll receive full attention for your questions.
How big is the group?
The minimum group size is 6 people; the maximum is 10.
Urbex photography in the dark?
As the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park is spectacularly illuminated in the evening, everything suddenly changes. It’s a unique experience to combine night photography and urban exploration in the same place. Here, too, there’s plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and you’ll receive advice on how to photograph the park in the dark in your own way.
What do you bring?
Your camera (system camera, SLR, or hybrid camera with M mode), a spare battery and charger. A tripod for evening shots (you may be able to manage without one if you use a high ISO setting). A torch. Something to drink. Your ID card or passport.
What does it cost?

Included
This trip includes a welcome drink, a guide on site and a digital handout.
Not included
The return journey, dinner, drinks other than the welcome drink, snacks and the local environmental vignette (hier te bestellen).
This workshop will go ahead as soon as six people have signed up. You will be notified when this happens.
In the unlikely event that the workshop cannot go ahead (for example, due to extreme weather), you will receive a refund within 3 days.
Professional guidance
Wim Robbertsen, owner of Hanzebeeld, has extensive experience in running workshops and has already organised numerous urbex photo trips (Click here for an overview of upcoming urbex photo trips) and is himself an enthusiastic and experienced (urbex) photographer.
He’ll always be keen to help you take photographs in a way that suits you. As well as Dutch, Wim also speaks English.

Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord
The vast park is situated on the site of Duisburg’s former blast furnace works. This industrial heritage site is well maintained, safe to explore and still contains all the old industrial installations. Architectural (and photogenic) features have also been added to the park, and there is space for nature. This urban exploration site is freely accessible and is also used for concerts and other events.
